Literally one of my favourite days of the year. There is no better league in world football at jersey designs, across both the men’s and women’s game, than the NWSL.
As an Orlando Pride fan, I can confirm we’ve had some corkers over the years.
NWSL kits are truly GOATed. They’re often so liberating, fun and original. There are template designs, of course, but the NWSL is unrivalled in its inventiveness.
And 2024’s edition hasn’t disappointed.
With that being said, here’s my top 5 picks of the NWSL 2024 kits.
1. San Diego Wave Secondary
I love this design. It’s simplistic, but at the same time it’s genuinely vibrant and reflective of the Wave. See what I did there? Hardy, ha. The subtle sun rise really completes the wavey design across the front.
It’s loud in the best possible way. It also clearly references the sun kissed beaches of Southern California.
It’s fun, lively and genuinely memorable. Smash hit.
2. Washington Spirit Primary
I love the contrast between the black and the metallic grey. Its clean, sharp and snappy. It’s just a cool looking jersey. The shading for the Spirit logo is really clever too, as it blends quite nicely with the overall design.
I don’t know why, but it also reminds me of the silver ball Nike released for the 2002 Men’s FIFA World Cup.
It’s sleek, it’s snappy and I love it.
3. Orlando Pride Secondary
This jersey it’s beautifully hideous. The nod to Florida’s world famous citrus fruits is classy. The colour schemes are like lurid, jazzy, eye catching and nauseating all in one.
And that’s what I love about it.
It’s the football shirts’ answer to the ugly Christmas sweater. It’s design is original. I like the way the fruits flow together. It’s immediately obvious what the theme is. The garish colours lean into its undoubted originality.
Perfection.
4. Chicago Red Stars Primary
This shirt sells itself. The simplified Red Stars logo is punchy and brilliantly vintage in its look.
The colours and patterns compliment the redesigned logo in a subtle yet profound manner. And yes, before you ask I do like to contradict myself.
The red Nike logo rounds it off perfectly.
A lovely shirt.
5. North Carolina Courage Primary
This shirt gives me old fashioned British bus seat vibes. For those Americans reading this, brows furrowed in bemusement, see the image below.
That’s all I really have to say on that jersey.
I know what you’re thinking. I’m not going to be troubling the fashion officianados during Paris Fashion Week with my musings… But boy, do I love NWSL kit day.
