Matchday 17 of the Finetwork Liga F, league champions FC Barcelona hosted Real Betis at their stadium in Sant Joan Despi.
Real Betis are presently 14th in the league rankings and having not won any of their previous four matches, the pressure was on them to make something of this match. However, that is easier said than done when you are facing Barcelona. For the blaugranas, winning this game meant breaking yet another record. They would win 53 consecutive league games, breaking Arsenal’s previous record of 52 wins between 2005 and 2008.
While Real Betis did well in the first half to prevent the Blaugrana from executing their attack, Barcelona scored seven goals past the Betis goalkeeper. Another hattrick for Asisat Oshoala, who has three hattricks in the last four appearances. Keira Walsh was also on the scoresheet for Barcelona, scoring her first goal for the club since signing this summer. Geyse Ferreira, Claudia Pina, and Mariona Caldentey saw their names on the scoreboard.
Second-Half Advantage for FC Barcelona
Barcelona’s game dynamics improved significantly in the second half as Real Betis’ defences crumbled, allowing them to exploit spaces on the flanks and in the midfield. Fridolina Rolfo has been a crucial player for the Catalan club, grabbing three assists and posing a defensive threat. With the number of rotations witnessed this season, coach Jonatan Giraldez has done an excellent job of controlling the players’ minutes. With her third hattrick in the previous four games, Asisat Oshoala is now level for the Pichichi with Levante striker Alba Redondo on 17 goals.
Overall, FC Barcelona’s victory at home was another outstanding triumph on their way to winning the league title. With this victory, FC Barcelona broke yet another record by winning their 53rd consecutive league match. With the club entering a crucial half of the season, it will be intriguing to see how the team is managed.
