Daphne Van Domselaar will sign a three-year deal with WSL side Aston Villa once her contract expires with current club FC Twente later this month.
The Dutch shot-stopper has 13 international caps and made her senior debut at club level in 2017. Van Domselaar was recently named in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup which is no surprise given her performance so far for club and country. So far she has won 8 domestic trophies in her home country including three Eredivisie Vrouwen titles since joining FC Twente in 2017.
Van Domselaar is a bright young talent and an incredible addition to Carla Wards side. Her talent was highlighted last summer during the 2022 UEFA Women’s EURO with some exceptional performances for the Netherlands.

Daphne Van Domselaar expressed her excitement in signing for Aston Villa, “It’s such a big club and they’re doing really well. I can’t wait to join”
“She’s a player who comes with great pedigree and potential to be one of the world’s best. We’re delighted to have her and we very much look forward to working with her.”
This news comes just a day after Villa announced the departure of England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. Van Domselaar will become Aston Villa’s first signing this summer and it will not be the last. It is clear that Carla Ward is looking to build a squad that can challenge the top teams in the FA WSL, and qualify for Champions League next season. With the addition of talented and experienced players including Rachel Daly and Jordan Nobbs, Ward is setting a great foundation which she can build on this transfer season following Aston Villa’s highest ever Women’s Super League table finish (5th place). Daphne Van Domselaar joining Aston Villa is no doubt the beginning of an exciting transfer season for Villa.
