Spain have outclassed Costa Rica on a cold and wet evening in Te Whanganui-A-Tara Wellington with a 3-0 win. Spain had lots of attacking opportunities and capitalised on multiple occasions during the game.

The Spanish side had the first opportunities in the game but weren’t quite able to get anything much out of them. The first shot of the game came from Gonzàlez who took the first shot on goal for Spain from a cross by Del Castillo.

With the ball quickly picked up by the Costa Rica goalie she fired it down to her defenders and this helped to create a counter attack, but Herrera wasn’t able to quite get the best shot away. Andrès had her first big chance of the game where she headed the corner over the top of the goal.

With many different things going on for these sides, the chances were building, just in time for uniform. With the right pass or clean shot on goal not coming off, they would need to think of a new idea.

The first Spanish goal came from the legs of a Philippines player. De Campo tried to slice a cross to her own teammate but it missed her teammate and instead went into the goal.

Bonmatì scores Spain’s second. Del Castilio gets the ball taken from her inside the box but Costa Rica quickly clear the ball out. Bonmatí took the ball into the box and passed it to Abelleria who gave it to Carmona and then a bad tackle on tv was awarded with a penalty. Hermoso stands up and tries to take it. She sent it left, but sadly for Hermoso it was saved by the Costa Rican keeper.

There were many different attacking opportunities with Paralluelo, Bonmatì,and Gonzàlez all having a strong formation up the front. If it wasn’t for the Costa Rican goalie, Solera, the side may have conceded more goals due to the excellent display she’d put in, especially with Spain on most he officials are from there as well.

Spain kept putting pressure on the Costa Rican side but the defence were pretty good at keeping them out. In what was a closish game, it ended up with the Switzerland side taking a 2-0 win.
