The latest update from the Chelsea camp while they are at camp in Morocco, revealed that Australian star Sam Kerr has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training. She will be assessed by a specialist in the coming days and then she will start her rehabilitation journey with the club.
Kerr who joined Chelsea in 2019 and has since made 128 appearances scoring 99 goals, winning the WSL title four times, the league cup twice and the FA cup three times. She will be a big lose for the blues as continue their charge to fight for the WSL title where they are currently sitting top of the table with Manchester City sitting 3 points behind them.
Australia will also be missing their captain for their next qualifying games for the Olympics, if Australia do manage to qualify she will also be missing. It is a huge loss considering she is such a huge player for both club and country with her speed and skill level and her ability to score.she is considered one of the best strikers in the world and is one of Australia’s greatest athletes.
Kerr joins the list of women’s players who have suffered ACL injuries including England lionesses Chloe Kelly, Leah Williamson and Beth Mead alongside spain’s Alexia Putellas and Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema are players amongst the very long list. It is said to be a 9 to 12 month standard recovery time although complications can be expected.
