10th January 2024, marked a significant moment for Chelsea as they officially unveiled the signing of Nathalie Bjorn, the talented Swedish international, from fellow Women’s Super League (WSL) contender Everton.
Nathalie Bjorn’s remarkable football journey has taken her from the football pitches of Sweden to the prestigious clubs of Everton and Chelsea. Along the journey she has been capped by Sweden 61 times and helped them achieve a silver medal at the Olympics in 2020 and back-to-back bronze medals at the 2019 and 2023 world cups. Her exceptional performance for Club and Country did not go unnoticed, and soon Chelsea came calling, securing her transfer to the powerhouse London club.
She brings a wealth of experience from her time with the national team and competed at the highest level with her homeland club Rosengard. This helps to show the quality she will bring to Chelsea, a team which is already competing at the highest level.
When asked about her playing style:
‘ You will see that I will fight 100%, I want to win every duel and every game. You will see some of my qualities with my passing and passing through lines is my biggest quality, I would say. She ‘hopes she can help the team with her style of play’.
The addition of Nathalie Bjorn to Chelsea’s squad not only strengthens the team but also forms a Swedish trio, reuniting her with team mates Zecira Musovic and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. The comfort of having familiar faces around, with whom she has shared the pitch and experiences, adds a special dimension to her integration into the Chelsea squad. In an exclusive interview with Chelsea, she stated that “It’s really nice to have the Swedes here who I have known for a long time and played with them before. It’s a nice feeling to have them here.” This will not only enhance the on-field dynamics but also contribute to a positive team spirit within the Chelsea ranks.
