How to get to Auckland

If you’re travelling from the other hosting cities in New Zealand then the best way is to fly, unless you are coming from Hamilton where it will take you around 1 ½ hours by car. To fly from Wellington it will take around one hour, and to fly from Dunedin to Auckland it will take you one hour and fifty minutes. To get from the Auckland International Airport to the City Centre it is around 20 km, and you can get there via the SkyBus or via a Taxi. The SkyBus has three stops in downtown Auckland.

Things to do

Auckland is home to 1.44 million people and is the largest city in Aotearoa New Zealand. There are many different activities that visitors to the city can do over their time in Auckland. A visit to the Sky Tower is a must for any visitor and you can even do the famous SkyWalk! There are many activities for those who may be travelling with children. Visiting the Auckland Zoo which is located at Western Springs or Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium located in Orakei. The Auckland Museum is also popular on a rainy day. Here you can walk around the museum and learn about many different things including the indigenous people of Aotearoa, the Māori people.

The Auckland Viaduct Harbour is also a great place to visit with many different cafes, restaurants and bars located in this area of Auckland. You can go for a walk around the Viaduct and then cool with a refreshing beverage at one of the bars located near. The Auckland Maritime Museum and Sky Tower aren’t located too far from the Viaduct Harbour.

Another location to visit during your stay in Auckland is Devonport. You can travel across on the ferry to visit the relaxed village of Devonport, where there are many cafes and seafood restaurants. There are many amazing underground army tunnels located on the volcanic cone of the North Head, and you can easily spend the majority of the day in Devonport with the tunnels, shops and cafes in the suburb. Takarunga/Mount Victoria is also located in Devonport and is the highest volcano on Auckland’s North Shore with it being 66m in height. The lava from the volcano lines much of Devonport’s waterfront.
