March 6, 2022, FA Women’s Championship Match between London City Lionesses and Liverpool Women.
League leaders Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 15 games after a draw away to London City Lionesses.
Liverpool had some decent chances in the first half, with Leanne Kiernan forcing Shae Yanez into a save after getting by Hayley Nolan, while Ceri Holland headed wide.
London City’s Shanade Hopcroft forced Rachel Laws into a very good save, but a miscommunication at the back allowed Liverpool to take the lead. Harley Bennett tried to play out from the back, but Katie Stengel was alert enough to press the London City centre-back, winning the ball before firing home past Shae Yanez.
Laws was called into action with a superb double save ten minutes from halftime as London City tried to find an equaliser.
Just after the break and with the wind on their side, London City found an equaliser. A corner was put right into the six-yard box, causing mayhem for Liverpool, London City’s Lily Agg tried to stab the ball home, but Laws parried well. Brooke Nunn would not be denied at the rebound as she slammed home the equaliser.
Liverpool’s pressing continued relentlessly to find a late winner, but London City held firm, as a Rhiannon Roberts effort was cleared off the line by the alert London City defence.
