How to get to Hamilton
If you’re travelling from the other hosting cities in New Zealand then the best way is to fly, unless you are coming from Auckland where it will take you around 1 ½ hours by car. To fly from Wellington it will take around one hour and fifteen minutes, and to fly from Dunedin to Hamilton it will take you one hour and fifty minutes.

Hamilton is home to 165,400 people and is the seventh largest city in Aotearoa New Zealand. There are many different activities that visitors to the city can do over their time in Hamilton. A visit to Hamilton Gardens is a must for any one visiting! There are many activities for those who may be travelling with children. Visiting the Hamilton Zoo which is located in Baverstock or a visit to the Hamilton Museum where the kids can look around and you can learn more about the Māori people of Aotearoa.
If you want to take a little road trip, you can take an hour drive to the Waitomo Caves. The caves are filled with glow worms and there are multiple different tours or adventures you can go on to explore the caves. At the caves there is Black Water Rafting where you can either go on a three or five hour trip. Black Water Rafting is where you are around 80 metres below and you raft in tubes through rapids, jump off waterfalls and float below a sky of glow worms.
Hobbiton is another fun place to visit whilst in Hamilton. There are many different tours that you can go on at Hobbiton. Including the movie tour set, evening banquet tour, second breakfast tour are some of the many different tours located at Hobbiton! The movie tour is where you will be able to journey around the 12 acre set of the movie, The Hobbit. You will see Hobbit Holes, the Mill and get the chance to look at the world-famous Green Dragon Inn.
