Mia Enderby signs for Liverpool FC Women

Liverpool have signed England youth international Mia Enderby from Championship side Sheffield United.

With the addition of an England U19’s striker, Liverpool Women are sending a message to the rest of the league ahead of the 2023–24 WSL season. Mia Enderby is the reds 3rd signing of the summer, and with the addition of Natasha Flint and Jenna Clark, it is clear that Matt Beard (LFC Women’s manager) is looking to strengthen his side for the upcoming campaign.

In the official LFC press release, Beard spoke about the signing of Mia to Liverpool:

“Mia is a very, very exciting young talent. Obviously with us being in the Championship when she was breaking into the team a couple of years ago at the age of 16, she’s a player we’ve been monitoring.”

“She’s definitely a player who will excite the fans, she’s direct, she’s quick and she can score all types of goals.”

Who is Mia Enderby?

The 18-year-old forward joins the Reds after spending two seasons with Sheffield United Women, having come through the Leeds United Regional Talent Centre.

Enderby joined Sheffield United (the Blades)  in July 2021 where she was  given a debut a month after signing. Her statement goal came against Stourbridge in a Women’s FA Cup match in December. Mia’s breakthrough season was the season of 2022–2023, where she had 19 appearances in the FA Women’s Championship. Enderby won the Young Player of the Year title while playing for Sheffield United Women and established herself as a regular player for the FA Women’s Championship team, scoring nine goals last season.

She will represent the Reds in the upcoming 2023–2024 season sporting the number 13 jersey. Enderby said:

“It’s like a dream come true. Ever since I was young I’ve wanted to play in the WSL”.

Despite only being 19, Enderby has been described to be a player with ‘no fear’ and her move to Liverpool will push her to reach new heights in her footballing career. She joins the likes of Leanne Kiernan, Katie Stengal and Melissa Lawley as forwards, and will look to get her name on the scoresheet.

Matt Beard said “there are a lot of players here with a lot of experience who she can draw upon, seek advice from and learn from”. Liverpool boasts a squad with youth and experience, therefore Enderby will have the support and guidance from other team members to develop as a player with the dream of becoming the “best [she] can be for [her] club and [her] country”.

Liverpool women on the rise?

LFCW finished seventh in the league last season (22/23), and defeated the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City to gain important points.

Matt Beard’s team is hoping to make a strong debut for the new campaign, and bringing more talent onto the team during the transfer season is just the start. The reds will look to enter the new season finishing higher up the table and competing for trophies; However, it will take more than a few additional players to do that.

Investment in the women’s side has increased which has resulted in recent developments which will benefit the team. Liverpool FC Women’s first team and academy received the keys to Melwood which will now become their new training base, and the iconic elite facility, steeped in LFC’s great past, will bring a new chapter for the women’s team. The purchase its former Melwood training facility ensures that top-notch training facilities are being used by the women’s first team. Melwood served as Liverpool’s home base for 70 years, so re-purchasing the facility is a positive for the club and it is clear that Liverpool FC are moving in the right direction.

With new training facilities and a summer of signings, will this help see Liverpool FC Women finish the 23/24 Women’s Super League higher than they did last season?
